Draining Delayed for Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

Maintenance work planned for the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool has been delayed.

Crews had planned to begin draining the pool Friday for an annual cleaning.

However, the National Park Service (NPS) said Thursday that the work has been postponed "pending finalization of the regulatory process," according to an email from an NPS spokesman. The project is now expected to begin within the next two weeks.

Once it begins, the work is expected to take between 30 and 60 days.

The reflecting pool is more than 150 wide and more than 2,000 feet long. It contains 6.7 million gallons of water.
