Officer Shoots Man in NW DC Condo

Officers called to building for apparent suicide attempt

An officer is called to a DC condominium for an apparent suicide attempt and ends up shooting a man.

The shooting happened at about 10 a.m. in the 1300 block of 13th Street in Northwest.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said two officers were inside a Condominum building responding to an attempted suicide call when they were confronted by a man with a large knife.

The officers, one a 21-year veteran of the force and the other a recent graduate from the police academy who was being trained, got into a struggle with the man and one of the officers fired his weapon.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the veteran officer was the one to shoot, Lanier said.

Neither officer was hurt.

There has been no word on the condition of the victim.
