Obama in Virginia to Defend Administration, er, Rally for Deeds

Obama appearing at fundraiser for Democratic candidate

McLEAN, Va. -- President Barack Obama is heading back on the campaign trail to give a midsummer boost to the Democratic candidate for Virginia governor.

Obama will be in McLean tonight to appear at a fundraiser and a campaign rally for Creigh Deeds.

Deeds faces a tough race with former Republican Attorney General Bob McDonnell. It's one of only two governor's races nationwide this year.

Virginia used to be a reliably Republican state, but it went to Obama in 2008. Obama's advisers recognize the race could be seen as a referendum on the White House and the Democratic Congress.
