Nun Carjacked at Gunpoint in Northeast, Police Say

A nun who was fully dressed in her habit was carjacked at gunpoint in Northeast D.C., police say.

The nun was walking on Quincy Street in Brookland around 7 p.m. Monday to her parked car.

A man approached her, brandishing a gun and demanding her keys, police said.

She complied, and the man drove off in her car, police said.

Another nun came to help the carjacking victim and told police what she saw.

Police say they spotted the stolen vehicle about 3.5 miles away near the intersection of 26th Street and Benning Road Northeast. The suspect got out of the car and tried to flee, and police chased him.

The suspect was arrested and the gun was recovered, police said.

Brandon Brown, 20, of Northeast, was arrested on charges of armed carjacking with a gun and carrying a pistol without a licence, police said.

The nun who was carjacked is doing OK and is thankful for the police, another nun who knows the victim said.

She belongs to the community of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
