U.S. Park Police are investigating an early-morning double shooting that left two men injured.
It happened in the northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway just after 2 a.m. Police said someone fired into a Mercedes as it headed north; two men inside the car were struck and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser said the crime scene stretched for several hundred yards on the B-W Parkway, beginning at Riverdale Road and ending just before I-495.
The investigation lasted throughout the morning rush hour. All northbound lanes of the BW Parkway were closed between Riverdale Road and the Beltway; traffic was rerouted all morning, causing major backups.
Investigators say they don't have suspect information at this point and don't know what led to the shooting. There's also no word on if any weapons were found inside the victims' vehicle. The investigation is continuing.
