No Jail Time Yet for Drug Dealer Who Delivered Heroin to Alexandria Hospital Room

A heroin dealer who delivered the drug to a man recovering in the hospital after an overdose may be spared jail time — at least for now.

Michael "Flip" Filipowicz, 25, pleaded guilty last year on two charges, including drug distribution.

Police said in summer 2017, Filipowicz had supplied heroin to a 24-year-old Alexandria man who suffered an overdose but was revived by Narcan.

Then, while the overdose victim was being treated in Inova Alexandria Hospital, Filipowicz signed in as a guest and brought the overdose victim more heroin, causing another overdose.

"Within 24 hours, we received another call, where the person had overdosed again, within the hospital," Alexandria Police Chief David Huchler previously said.

Filipowicz turned himself in to police on Feb. 28, 2018.

A judge handed down a five-year sentence on Thursday but suspended all but nine months.

Filipowicz is not going to jail yet. He'll be allowed to finish a drug treatment program in Florida and then again go before the judge, who will review his progress.
