Do you know how to get to Reagen National Airport? Just follow VDOT's signs.
The transportation department said it is embarrassed after misspelling the name of our former president on a new sign directing people on Interstate 395.
VDOT, you see, is in the midst of a sign-replacement program along I-395. And somehow former President Ronald Reagan's name was spelled wrong on a sign for Exit 8C.
The sign is one of two directing people to Reagan National. The first one is misspelled, but a second one is correct.
VDOT said it wouldn't replace the costly sign, but instead cover up the "e" with an "a," which workers did with an overlay Tuesday. It will remain that way for quite some time, as VDOT said the exit signs usually last for about 15 years.
"I'm a nut for spelling and a history buff, too," said Richard Hurst, who works in Pentagon City. "It does surprise me that VDOT would not be able to spell a president's name correctly. Regardless of what you think about President Reagan, it's not a difficult name to spell."
