A proposed spending spree could give teachers and staff at Fairfax County schools reason to celebrate.
Superintendent Jack Dale introduced next year's budget on Thursday night, which includes a nine percent increase in spending.
Most of the proposed $2.4 billion spending plan would go towards hiring 700 new employees, many of them teachers. The new hires would help accommodate nearly 4,000 new students expected to enter the system next year.
Summer school, cut after the financial crash, would return in limited form.
The spending plan would also unfreeze pay for current teachers, and raise custodian salaries to equal salaries in nearby school systems.
In coming months, the county's school board will get a chance to weigh in before a final vote.
