A baseball team in Northern Virginia now has what they say is the first female logo in baseball.
The Fredericksburg Nationals unveiled Mary Washington as the face of their new team logo. She was George Washington's mother and had a former home in Fredericksburg.
The announcement Saturday occurred outside Washington's former home, in celebration of what would have been her 311th birthday.
Washington is sometimes referred to as the grandmother of our nation.
Officials from the Mary Washington House and the City of Fredericksburg worked with the baseball team to aim to have an accurate depiction of Ms. Washington.
The logo shows Washington as a southpaw, throwing with her left arm, with a glove on her right hand.
The team did not immediately respond to inquiries.
