The American Museum of Natural History in New York is showing off a new exhibit that may be too big for its building.
The newly discovered dinosaur, a 122-foot-long titanosaur, was unveiled Thursday. It is on display at the museum on the dinosaur floor, grazing the gallery’s 19-foot-high ceiling and extending its head and neck toward the elevators. While the giant herbivore is just a cast, one of its 8-foot thigh bones is on temporary view.
The fossils were excavated in Argentina. The name titanosaur refers to a group of giant dinosaurs, who lived about 95 to 100 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.
This prehistoric creature, one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered, has not been officially named.
The new exhibit will be on display until Jan. 1, 2020.
