Nationals Win 10th Straight, Matt Williams Must Impersonate Babe Ruth

In an absolutely ridiculous development, the Nationals won via walk-off again Thursday when an Arizona Diamondbacks throwing error in the bottom of the ninth allowed Denard Span to score and secure a 1-0 victory.

For those keeping (or losing) count, that is five walk-off wins in Washington's past six games. The Nationals are the first team since the 1986 Houston Astros to have such a stretch and the seventh team to do so since 1900, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Of course, that is 10 straight victories overall too. That means manager Matt Williams must reprise his Babe Ruth impersonation as he promised in May.

“As in any situation with games or any of that, timing is important,” Williams told reporters with a smile. "So I wouldn’t imagine that right now is the proper time. It’s probably not appropriate. But in some form or fashion, at some point, probably in the privacy of some stadium somewhere, we’ll bring it out again. I don’t know when that will be.

“It’s not appropriate. You talk to folks and you say ‘Hey, boy, sure we’d like to win 10 in a row.’ But at some point it will be fun and appropriate but not right now.”
