Nationals Extend Contract With General Manager Mike Rizzo

Rizzo's new contract keeps him with the team through the 2020 season

The Washington Nationals announced on the day of the team's home opener that they have extended the contract of President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo.

Rizzo's new contract keeps him with the team through the 2020 season, according to a Thursday morning release from the team.

Rizzo joined the Nats as assistant general manager in 2006 after the Lerner family assumed control of the franchise. He moved into his current role in 2013.

"Mike's commitment to our shared goal of bringing a World Championship to Washington, D.C. makes this an exciting day for our family and the Washington Nationals," said Ted Lerner, managing principal owner.
