Murder Conviction in Sherman Circle Shooting

A teenager was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder in the 2010 shooting of a Catholic University student.

Eric Foreman faces life without parole at sentencing Nov. 16. He was convicted Monday in the death of 31-year-old Neil Godleski.

Godleski, who was a graduate student, was biking home from work at Phillips restaurant on the waterfront. Shots were fired at him at Kansas Avenue and Buchanan Street but missed and Godleski continued along Kansas until he fell to the ground at Sherman Circle. According to government evidence, Foreman walked up to him and shot Godleski at close range.

Foreman, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, was tried as an adult.

The murder prompted D.C. leaders to call for better lighting at Sherman Circle.
