Movie Chain Bans Outside Food at Area Theaters

Trying to take food into some area movie theaters is now like trying to take fruit across the border.

AMC is banning outside food and drink from its theaters, the Washington Business Journal reported. That's a blow to the food court at Tysons Corner and to wallets throughout the area.

AMC runs 14 theaters in the D.C. area.

"AMC recently reviewed its company policy regarding outside food and drink and will no longer be permitting guests to bring in these items, as is the case with many entertainment venues," said Sun Dee Larson, vice president of corporate communications at Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC Entertainment.

So plan to spend more at the movies -- or wear baggy clothing.

Larsen added that AMC is considering expanding its menu to appeal to more moviegoers' appetites.

Regal Entertainment Group already has such a ban in place, the Business Journal reported. Regal operates more than a dozen theaters in the area.
