Mount Vernon Shows Off George Washington's New Library

Facility to open in September

Officials from Mount Vernon are giving a preview of George Washington's new presidential library on the grounds of the estate.

It's the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington.

Organizers say it will be an international headquarters for knowledge about America's most famous founding father.

For the first time ever, Mount Vernon's large collection of George Washington's books, manuscripts and archival materials will be organized and available to researchers.

It will also be host to a variety of seminars and training programs focusing on George Washington's leadership.

The facility cost $105 million.

The grand opening is set for Sept. 27.
