More Students Report Inappropriate Contact With Montgomery Co. Substitute Teacher Jose Pineda

Several students say they have had inappropriate contact with a Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) substitute teacher who was arrested last month for sex abuse of a minor. 

Jose Pineda, 50, allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a Roberto Clemente Middle School student Sept. 30 but wasn't arrested for sex abuse until Oct. 14.

Roberto Clemente Middle School parents weren't notified about the incident until Nov. 7 in a letter from principal Khadika Barkley, who called the incident "isolated" and reassured parents administrators took "swift action."

Several more students at Ridgeview Middle School and Gaithersburg Elementary School have said they've had inappropriate contact with Pineda, according to a statement posted on the school system's site Thursday evening. 

Pineda worked at Ridgeview for 29 days and at Gaithersburg Elementary for three days since the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, according to MCPS.

  • Gaithersburg High School: 2 days
  • Rosa Parks Middle School: 2 days
  • Rockville High School: 1 day
  • Montgomery Blair High School: 1 day
  • Seneca Valley High School: 1 day
  • Twinbrook Elementary School: 1 day
  • Longview School: 1 day

These allegations are surfacing during the same time a contract worker for MCPS was arrested for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. That incident occurred at Baker Middle School on Oct. 6. Parents say they weren't notified it happened until Nov. 3.
