Mmm Mmm, Bad! ‘Cocaine Soup' Bust at Dulles

Man tried to smuggle drugs into the country

This wasn’t your typical powdered soup mix. A Pennsylvania man was busted trying to sneak cocaine through Dulles Airport -- in dried soup packets.

Customs and Border Protection officers say they caught Jose Acevedo, 41, with more than four pounds of cocaine in various packages of powdered soup. A drug-sniffing dog detected the drugs -- worth up to $140,000 -- in some luggage.

Acevedo had flown into Dulles from El Salvador.

This might be an unusual way to smuggle drugs, but it’s is not the first time a traveler from El Salvador attempted to sneak "cocaine soup" through Dulles.

And in December 2009, officers at Dulles found heroin in juice boxes and cocaine in cooked chicken. Just another reason to watch what you eat.
