Minor Earthquake Reported in Louisa County

The Labor Day weekend is getting off to a shaky start in Louisa County.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a magnitude-2.3 earthquake struck in the county at 12:27 a.m. Friday. The epicenter was 6 miles south-southwest of Louisa.

No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

In 2011, the county was struck by a magnitude-5.8 earthquake. The 2011 earthquake damaged two schools in the county. The Federal Emergency Management Agency eventually awarded the schools $22 million to help them rebuild.
