Metrorail Stopped Near National Airport

Metrorail service was temporarily suspended Monday morning on the Blue and Yellow lines between Braddock Road and National Airport due to flooding.

Shuttle buses were established between the two stations, according to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel. The suspension of service had "significant effects" on the Blue and Yellow lines, he said.

The flooding occurred in a low-lying area of Potomac Yards near the shopping center. Water was over the height of the rails, Stessel said.

Crews responded to pump out the water. Limited service was restored just after 9 a.m. on one of two tracks as the high water started to recede.  All tracks resumed operation by 9:30 a.m.
