Metro's long-term maintenance work continues this weekend, affecting service on each of the system's five rail lines.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Red Line trains will be sharing a single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights for track work and between Takoma and Forest Glen while new communications cables are installed. Throughout the weekend, Red Line trains will operate between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 24 minutes. Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate between Van Ness and Takoma only, providing service every 12 minutes through the Downtown core.
Meanwhile, track work will have Blue Line trains sharing a track between Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery and Orange Line trains single tracking between Foggy Bottom and Clarendon. Orange and Blue line trains will depart endpoint terminals every 20 minutes, resulting in trains every 10 minutes at stations served by both lines.
Finally, on the Green Line trains will be sharing a track between the U Street and Georgia Avenue-Petworth stations. Yellow Line trains will only be running from Huntington to Mt. Vernon Square, People looking to go north from there will have to transfer to a Green Line train.
Service should be back to normal Monday morning.
