Metro Unveils Commemorative Caps SmarTrip Card

It's here! Metro has unveiled the commemorative SmarTrip card it promised to create in honor of the Washington Capitals' Stanley Cup win.

The limited-edition SmarTrip card was unveiled Monday, but fans may have to wait a few weeks to get their hands on them. The $10 cards are available for purchase at wmata.com, but Metro says riders should allow a few weeks for home delivery.

The transit system promised to Caps right winger T.J. Oshie a commemorative card if the team brought home the cup.

Oshie and defenseman Matt Nikanen were seen riding Metrorail to two home games of the Stanley Cup Final. Oshie even ran out of fare to cover his exit from the station ahead of Game 4.

"We are excited to honor the players who rode Metro to the games and the entire Caps team for this historic championship," said Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Wiedefeld.

The fare card features a photo of the team and the Stanley Cup, minutes after the Caps defeated the Vegas Knights in Game 5.

Metro says this is the first time a commemorative SmarTrip card has been created to celebrate a D.C. sports championship.
