Metro This Weekend: Work on Red, Blue and Orange Lines

Three Red Line stations will be closed; Orange and Blue lines running every 16 minutes; extra hour of service Sunday night for attendees of Delta Signa Theta events

Weekend work on the Metro will affect travel for Red, Orange and Blue line riders.

On the Red Line, three stations will be closed: Takoma, Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue. The Fort Totten station will be providing Green and Yellow line service only.

Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet, and between Glenmont and Silver Spring. Trains will run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and at regular weekend intervals (every 15-20 minutes) between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.

Buses will replace trains between NoMa-Gallaudet and Silver Spring.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the last train from Glenmont to Silver Spring will leave 47 minutes earlier than usual: at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning (in other words, Friday and Saturday nights), and at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday.

On the Orange and Blue lines, trains will run every 16 minutes (as opposed to normal 12-minute intervals) throughout the weekend.

The changes will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to closing time Sunday.

There is no scheduled work on the Green or Yellow lines.

Service change for Delta Sigma Theta centennial events:

On Sunday night, two stations -- the Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center and Gallery Place -- will stay open until 12:50 a.m. for crowds returning from Delta Sigma Theta centennial events at the Washington Convention Center and Verizon Center.

Riders are advised to enter those stations no later than 12:50 a.m. to ensure they can make any needed connections.

Other Metro station entrances will close at their normal times, but riders will be able to exit all stations during the extra hour of service.
