The agency that operates the region's Metrorail system has taken control of the behind-schedule Silver Line.
Metro made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday morning.
The $2.9 billion extension through Tysons Corner was built by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees Reagan and Dulles airports. Eventually, the Silver Line will extend out to Dulles, though that phase of the project is still several years away.
Metro now has 90 days to complete testing and training before it can open to the public. News4 Transportation Reporter Adaim Tuss says Metro is optimistic the line will pass inspection
Metro officials have said they hope passengers will be able to use the line by early August.
When the line opens this summer, service will run from the Wiehle-Reston East station to Largo Town Center.
