Metro is working to keep the rails safer by expanding their bomb detection training program.

A group of new bomb-sniffing canines were out around the Branch Avenue and Gallery Place stations on Wednesday. .

The dogs are helping Metro as a part of a grant by the TSA. The federal government pays for the training, annual exams and other costs of caring for the dogs.

After they are trained, the dogs will respond to calls of suspicious packages on Metro trains and stations.

Metro also uses trained dogs for its regular security patrols.
