A police officer tracked down a potential kidnapping suspect this week -- and it's not the first time he has come to the rescue of a young child.
Prince George's County Police responded to an attempted kidnapping of a third grader at James Ryder Elementary School in Clinton, Md. around 11 a.m. Monday.
An 8-year-old girl reported she had been assaulted on her way to school that morning -- she told police an unknown man began walking toward her, then started chasing her, and even grabbed her book bag. The girl was able to sprint away, but not before the suspect tried to grab her one more time.
Prince George's County Police officer Ariel Acosta responded to the school and immediately recognized the suspect description.
"Nine months ago, I stopped an individual who was drunk on the school property," Acosta explained. "So I went to his house, knocked on the door and he was wearing the same exact outfit that we were looking for."
The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Anthony D. Logan of Clinton. He has been charged with attempted kidnapping, second degree assault and trespassing.
This isn't the first time Acosta, a 5-year veteran of the department, has helped save a child -- last July, he was able to resuscitate a 3-year-old Accokeek boy who became entangled in window blind cords.
