The Maryland Historical Society needs your help to make history one stitch at a time.
Nearly 1,000 people are assisting with the recreation of the Star Spangled Banner flag that flew over Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814.
That was the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write what became our National Anthem.
The Historical Society started stitching the flag on the Fourth of July. The flag is made of wool bunting, which is just like the fabric used in the original flag.
The group is also using the same sewing techniques used more than 200 years ago.
The plan is to hoist the finished piece at Fort McHenry next month.
On Sunday, the Maryland Historical Society will hold a public sewing event. Pre-registered volunteers will add their stitches to the flag between noon and 4 p.m The group says those who missed registration may still get the chance to do some sewing.
