Maryland Boy, 11, Makes National Spelling Bee Finals

Twenty-five spelling competitors from D.C., Maryland and Virginia have been wittled down to one.

Saketh Sundar, 11, from Howard County, Maryland, was the only D.C. area resident to make the cut for the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals on Wednesday. Saketh is a student at Mayfield Woods Middle School in Elkridge.

He will take on 39 other spellers at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill on Thursday. 

One girl from D.C., 11 children from Maryland and 13 children from Virginia showed their spelling skills Wednesday.
