Bringing together runners from all over, the 42nd annual Marine Corps Marathon will give runners and spectators a chance to participate in patriotic and family-friendly activities.
With roughly 50,000 runners, the 26.2-mile race "is the largest marathon in the world that does not offer prize money to its top finishers. Instead, the event is a celebration of every finisher's honor, courage and commitment to training for, and completing, the MCM," according to the MCM website.
Lottery registration for 2017 is closed, however, MCM Charity Partner organizations may offer access. Volunteer opportunities are still open as a medical volunteer, compost assitant or a gear check/baggage volunteer throughout the day.
The event begins on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 7:45 a.m. for wheelchair and hand cycle participants and 7:55 a.m. for runners.
Participants are advised to arrive two hours prior to the race to ensure ample time for security and baggage drop-off. The marathon begins on Route 110 between Pentagon and Arlington Memorial Drive and ends at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
MCM announced in a media release that Metro services will open at 6 a.m.
Runners Village, the official launching pad for MCM participants, will provide water stations, prayer services, and a MCM Info Tent where runners will be able to receive additional information before starting. Free shuttle services to Runners Village are available at the Crystal City or Pentagon Metro stations. Participants can get to Runners Village through Pentagon Station.

All participants are required to maintain a 14-minute-per-mile pace.
Marathon finishers will receive an Eagle Globe and Anchor Finisher medal from the United States Marine Corps. Each runner will be given a hospitality box filled with snacks and a recovery jacket. All are invited to the MCM Finish Festival. Highlighted events include live entertainment, food samples and various sponsor-hosted activities.
