The lottery to enter the 42nd annual Marine Corps Marathon opens next week.
Registration for the Oct. 22 marathon is available through the lottery, which opens seven months before the race begins. From March 22 at noon to March 29 to noon, the lottery will be open for runners ages 14 or older.
There is no fee to enter the lottery, but if selected, the fee is $160 to complete registration.
Runners will be notified on March 30 regarding the 2017 registration status. If a runner is not able to participate, the marathon allows the runner to transfer the registration to someone else who is not already registered, for a $50 fee.
Runners may also defer their registration for next year, guaranteeing an entry and avoiding the lottery process. There is an $80 fee for this and has limited availability.
