“Raise the Woof”: Manassas Park a Finalist for $100,000 to Build Dog Park

Bark For Your Park seelcts Manassas as finalist in contest

Manassas Park is in the running to win $100,000 to build a new dog park.

The city entered PetSafe's "Bark For Your Park" competition in May and was chosen as one of 15 finalists June 13.

Applicants needed an approved location and civic leaders' support to be considered.

PetSafe, a company best known for innovative in-ground fences and doggie-doors, chose the 15 finalists based on the availability of land, civic leaders' support, population size and total number of votes.

As of publication, Manassas Park ranks 10th overall, with about 3,700 votes, and fourth out of five in the "Small Cities" category, which has a $25,000 runner-up prize.

Supporters are still trying to raise awareness about the competition, asking people to "raise the woof" for the park.

"We have a strong community of dog owners who are passionate about raising money for a new park," Manassas Park's competition page says. "Our current park is temporary and needs a lot of work! Having a permanent home for our furry friends would be amazing."

Voting is open until July 31. You can vote twice a day. Winners will be announced Aug. 7.
