Man, Woman on ATV Killed in Bowie Crash

A man and a woman were killed when their ATV and an SUV collided head-on in Bowie, Maryland, Wednesday night.

The fiery crash happened in the intersection of Old Chapel Road and Race Track Road about 11 p.m.

One of the victims was thrown from the ATV into the woods. Firefighters used an infrared device to find the body.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, police said.

The woman was a mother of two in her 30s, and the man was a 44-year-old, engaged father of five. Friends told News4 he was an experienced ATV operator.

Riding an ATV on a public road is against the law.

“This is a tragedy for those involved and unfortunately it was something that could be avoided,” Bowie Police Chief  John Nesky said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
