Suspect in Va. Building Shootings in Custody

Police arrested a man suspected of shooting at buildings in Fairfax County, Virginia -- including once when people were inside.

Detectives took 29-year-old Matthew Charles Malacarne into custody Friday after a joint investigation by police in Fairfax County, Herndon and Leesburg.

Investigators developed Malacarne as a suspect in a shooting the night of Sept. 17 in the 2200 block of Corporate Drive. A security camera, key lockbox and satellite dish were damaged, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and the building's elevators were shut down.

Evidence found at his Herndon home, led police to suspect Malacarne in two shootings in Fairfax County, police said.

Malacarne is accused of shooting at a business in the 2200 block of Monroe Street about 10 p.m. Aug. 3 while workers were inside.

He is believed to have fired again in the 2200 block of Corporate Drive, between 10 p.m. Aug. 4 and 8 a.m. the following day, police said.

Malacarne was charged with one count of felony destruction of property and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling for the Aug. 3 incident. He was charged with another count of felony destruction of property for the Aug. 4-5 shooting.

Herndon detectives are pursuing charges there.

Malacarne is being held without bond in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
