Man Trying to Get to Metro Fatally Struck Along Dulles Toll Road

A man attempting to cross the Dulles Toll Road was fatally struck Tuesday night, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said.

The man was struck just before 10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road.

“The incident itself involved one car, which remained on scene, and then the individual who was struck," MWAA spokesman Andrew Trull said. "That individual’s been identified as a 42-year-old man, and police are working right now to identify the next of kin.”

The victim may have been dropped off in the Dulles Access Road, then jumped over a barrier to the toll road in an attempt to get to the Wiehle-Reston East station, sources told News4. MWAA has not confirmed those details.

“Our police are working right now to investigate, collecting as much footage as they can," Trull said. "One of the unfortunate pieces though, the only eye witness to the event was the driver itself.”

The eastbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road were closed for more than five hours for the police investigation.
