Mother Asks for No Leniency in Beer Pong Sex Assault Case

The mother of a man who was sexually assaulted asked a judge for no leniency for the man convicted of sexually assaulting her son.

The mother called 40-year-old Joey Poindexter a "predator" who preyed upon "vulnerable, lonely young men" at a court hearing Friday.

In a victim impact statement, she said her son was now withdrawn from family and friends and may be suicidal. She said he has not sought counseling out of reluctance to talk about the abuse.

Poindexter was found guilty last month of eight sexual offense counts related to assaults of four men. In January, he was found guilty in a separate trial of sexually assaulting another man. He fired his lawyers and represented himself at his more recent trial.

Sentencing for Poindexter was delayed until April 15 after his new attorney asked for a delay Friday.

Authorities say Poindexter met several of his victims at beer pong tournaments, including one at a bar in College Park.

Prosecutors asked any other young men who may have had contact with Poindexter to come forward.
