A woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint and robbed Saturday morning just steps from Gallaudet University.
The victim told police a man approached her in the 1100 block of Penn Street NE about 6 a.m.
The man grabbed the woman's cellphone out to her back pocket.
Then, he pulled out a gun and forced her into an alley, where he sexually assaulted her.
Police did not release a complete description of the man.
Gallaudet University, which serves deaf and hard-of-hearing students, did not alert students to the crime.
"In this specific incident, information was not reported to Gallaudet, and therefore, an alert was not sent to the campus community," Theodore Baran, director of the Gallaudet University Department of Public Safety, said in a statement.
