Man Shot to Death While Pumping Gas in Hillcrest Heights

Police believe gunman was high on PCP

A Southeast D.C. man has been charged with first- and second-degree murder after authorities say he fatally shot a Baltimore man while the victim was pumping gas Tuesday night.

Prince George's County Police say they believe the gunman was high on PCP when he approached the victim, Eric Eugene Walker, 27, around 10:40 p.m. in Hillcrest Heights, Md.

Walker had an off-duty D.C. police officer as a passenger in his car when, authorities say, Duane Lamar Williams approached them, displaying a gun and chasing Walker across Branch Avenue, where he shot him multiple times.

At that point, the passenger in Walker's car identified himself as a police officer and attempted arrest Williams. Authorities say Williams attempted to fire at the officer but the gun didn't discharge.

Officers who responded to the scene found Williams nearby and tried using a stun gun on him, to no effect -- which is common when someone is using PCP, authorities said. They arrested him and recovered a gun.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
