Man Shot and Killed by Police in Germantown

Police still don't know why a man fatally shot by officers Monday night called 911 to falsely report that he murdered two people.

Authorities spent much of the night going in and out of a Germantown, Md., townhouse as they continued their investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The bizarre situation began when the man called 911 at 9:15 p.m., claiming that he shot and killed two people at a home on Red Robin Terrace.

When officers arrived to the scene, they heard more shots fired and canvassed the area with K-9 units and helicopters for the suspect. Police found the two individuals the suspect claimed to have shot unharmed.

After a short pursuit, officers found the suspect at Great Seneca Highway and Grotto Lane, holding a shotgun. He refused to disarm, according to police, and was subsequently shot and killed by officers.

It is unknown if the man pointed the gun at police or fired any shots. He has not been identified, and his motive remains unclear.

The officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave.
