18-Year-Old Shot Outside D.C. Recreation Center

An 18-year-old man was shot Thursday afternoon outside the Langdon Park Recreation Center in Northeast D.C., police said.

The man was found with two gunshot wounds near the outdoor swimming pool of the recreation center at 2901 20th Street NE, about one mile east of the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station. He was shot in the arm and side, and was conscious when an EMS crew arrived, police said.

"We heard four gunshots and looked out the door, and I saw one guy running," a neighbor who asked not to be identified said. "These kids these days, there's a lot of friction. A lot of shootings going on here."

A woman who has lived in the neighborhood since 2009 said she's moving because of the violence.

"I am getting the hell out of D.C.," Shelly Gardner said. "In fact, I just put my house on [the market]. I'm done."

No information on what preceded the shooting was available immediately. No arrests had been made.
