A southeast Washington man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the New Year's Day murder of his mother's fiance in their Clinton, Maryland, home.
D’Juan Renay Hunter was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted of second degree murder for the death of 52-year-old Raymond Quattlebaum.
According to court documents, Hunter went to his mother's home on Goldfield Place to collect his belongings after she told him he had to leave the home if he continued to treat Quattlebaum disrespectfully. During his visit, Hunter went to his bedroom, got a gun and shot Quattlebaum as he slept.
“Mr. Hunter killed Mr. Quattlebaum because he was angry that his mother chose her fiancé over him,” explained Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.
Hunter fled the scene and was arrested the next day.
Upon his release, Hunter will also serve five years of probation.
