Man Gets 25 Years for 1970s Sex Assaults

Christopher Camblin was convicted of raping two sisters last year

A former Silver Spring resident has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping two sisters over 35 years ago.

Christopher Chamblin, a resident of Davie, Fla. when he was charged in 2011, was convicted of 10 counts of rape and sexual offenses last year. His sentence was passed down Friday by Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Marielsa Bernard and followed statements from both sisters as well as Chamblin's wife, who called her convicted husband "the glue that holds our family together," according to The Washington Post.

The rapes began in about 1977, when Chamblin was a teenager. He lured the older of the two girls, aged 6 or 7, to his home with the promise of candy and television. The woman said that Chamblin threatened to kill her brothers if she resisted, at one point showing off a gun and knives. Chamblin followed the same procedure with the younger sister, who began burying her underwear in the backyard of her family's Silver Spring house. County Prosecutor Deborah Feinstein said in court that shards from the spoons she used to dig the holes turned up years later when county police detectives scanned the yard with metal detectors.
