A man who was found dead in the stairwell of an Amtrak station in New Carrollton, Maryland, fell backward and hit his head after climbing up the down escalator, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.
The man's body was found just after midnight Tuesday.
Surveillance footage showed the man climbing up the down escalator. When he reached the top, he fell backward and hit his head. Pieces of clothing could still be seen at the bottom of the escalator hours later.
The station serves both Metro, MARC and Amtrak. Amtrak service was not affected by the investigation.
No further information has been released.
