Man Dies Following Possible Shootout in Southeast D.C.

Source: Semi-automatic weapon found beside homicide victim

The man fatally shot near a southeast Washington elementary school may have been involved in an early morning shootout involving multiple gunmen, a source tells News4's Megan McGrath.

Police were called to the 5000 block of Bass Place SE just before 3:30 a.m. Friday and found 27-year-old Tyree Beysean Miller suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.  Authorities marked off a large crime scene, combing the area near Nalle Elementary School in the 5000 block of 50th Street SE and an apartment in the 5000 block of Bass Place SE.

A semi-automatic weapon police found beside the victim may have been used in an exchange of gunfire with one or more shooters, McGrath reported. More than two dozen shots were fired, damaging about a half dozen cars in the area.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

No suspect information is available at this time.
