A College Park man has been charged with stealing dog tags of U.S. servicemen from the National Archives, including those of pilots whose planes crashed in World War II.
Antonin DeHays, 32, of College Park, Maryland, was charged with theft of government records in federal court Tuesday, the U.S. attorney's office in Maryland said.
According to an affidavit, DeHays repeatedly visited the National Archives at College Park. Prosecutors said he stole dog tags and other documents.
Authorities said the thefts could date back to 2015. Prosecutors said a search of DeHays' home led to the recovery of some of the dog tags and missing documents.
No one answered the door Thursday at DeHays' home. He had worked part-time at National History Day, an organization which teaches high school kids history, but that organization said he was no longer an employee.
