Man Charged With Shooting DC Teacher in Face, Killing Second Man

D.C. police say they've arrested the man who shot an elementary school teacher in the face and killed another man.

Tyree Brandon Irving, 22, is charged in the Jan. 15 killing of Davane Williams and the Feb. 18 wounding of Quintin Newaebo.

Newaebo's injury stunned the city. The innocent bystander survived being shot in the left cheek and left hand as he drove home on New York Avenue.

The fourth-grade math teacher said Wednesday that he's grateful a suspect was arrested.

"I'm glad that they finally found him," Newaebo said.

Irving was charged after a witness to Williams' killing identified him to police. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser led a peace walk on Wednesday. She said police never stop trying to catch repeat offenders with guns.

"We make progress every day, but we want it to be faster," she said.
