A 40-year-old Laurel man is accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl while her parents were setting up her birthday party last month.
Luis Alberto Cruz-Aguilar was arrested Thursday morning and has been charged with sex abuse of a minor.
Cruz- Aguilar was supposed to be helping set up for the victim's birthday party, but instead, police said he lured the girl into another room, sexually assaulted her and left the house.
The victim’s family didn't know him as more than an acquaintance and did not have his address.
Police in Laurel eventually found out where Cruz-Aguilar worked, and he was arrested at a job site in Baltimore County.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Cruz-Aguilar had an outstanding warrant for fourth degree sex offense in the 2010 sex assault of a 13-year-old Laurel girl.
He never showed up for court and had been on the loose until now, police said.
