Man Arrested in Fredericksburg's 1st Homicide in 2 Years

Fredericksburg Police have made an arrest in the city's first homicide in two years.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Wicklow Drive at the Fall Hill Apartments for a report of a man lying unresponsive in the stairwell. When they arrived, they found 22-year-old Joshua Wormley of Bowling Green suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest.

Wormley was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Police say Wormley's death is the first homicide in Fredericksburg since 2013.

According to investigators, a tip led them to an apartment in the complex. Inside, police say they found 22-year-old Chance Robby Sumter hiding in a closet.

Sumter was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond. Police say Sumter and the victim knew one another.

The investigation into Wormley's death is in going.
