Man Accused of Setting Car on Fire, Shooting at Business

An Alexandria man was arrested for allegedly shooting into a business and setting a car on fire Saturday night.

According to officials, crews responded to a car fire in the 5500 block of Cherokee Avenue in Franconia just after 11 p.m.

When they got to the scene, they found a handgun and gas can close to the car. It was parked next to a business, which had gunshot holes in the glass.

Shortly after the incident, 30-year-old Matthew Mehfar was charged with shooting in public, arson, entering an alarmed building, damaging public property and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
