Mail Carrier Stabbed in Robbery

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A mail carrier was stabbed in a robbery in Rockville Monday afternoon.

The victim was stabbed after 2:45 p.m. at Halpine Road and Alsace Lane, police said. She was taken to an area hospital in with one stab wound to the torso.
 
No witnesses saw the attack, so police did not get a good description of the attacker, but the victim was conscious when she was taken to the hospital and said the attacker was a Hispanic man wearing a black shirt and black pants who may have gotten into a teal or mint green vehicle, possibly a car with a spoiler. He is described as being in his 30s and standing 5 feet 6 or 5 feet 7.
 
Investigators believe the attacker attempt to steal the 31-year-old carrier's wallet or purse, police said. They are trying to determine if anything was taken from her mailbag or mail truck.

The victim said the attacker announced the robbery in Spanish. She was stabbed in the abdomen when she tried to grab the knife.
 
The mail carrier is in stable condition.
