Virginia's largest school district chose Lynchburg Superintendent Scott Brabrand as its new leader.
Fairfax County Public Schools announced Thursday it selected Brabrand to serve as its new superintendent. The selection will become final pending a school board vote scheduled for next week.
Before taking over in Lynchburg, Brabrand had a long career in Fairfax County schools, including service as an assistant superintendent and principal at Fairfax High School.
The previous superintendent, Karen Garza, resigned in September. Steven Lockard has been serving as interim superintendent.
Fairfax County Public Schools serve 188,000 students and is the 10th largest school district in the United States.
