Phony Pepco Employee Robs Woman

Maryland woman robbed by phony utility man

Police in Anne Arundel County are looking for a man who posed as a utility worker and robbed a woman at gunpoint.

The victim said the man came to her door Tuesday morning, claiming he worked for Pepco and needed to check on a gas leak. He even had an ID badge to back up his story.

He had something else, though, along with that badge: a gun.

He pulled the gun on the woman and robbed her, taking off in a car parked around the corner.

Police urge you to never open the door, if someone claiming to be a utility worker comes to your home unannounced. Utility companies never make unannounced house calls.
